With big-screen smartphones comes the possibility of big-screen entertainment and today’s App of the Day on Pocket-lint is an example of just that. There’s even the popcorn to prove it. So, if you like a bit of horror or grindhouse is your thing, then get your headphones in and prepare for your blood to be chilled.

Popcorn Horror is, to all intents and purposes, a short-film platform for the horror genre that you can view over Android or iPhone mobile phone apps. Filmmakers everywhere can send in their work and the men behind the monster, Felix and Dave, will decide whether or not it meets the standard - which, it seems, is pretty high.

That’s not to say there aren’t many films currently on Popcorn Horror - there are a decent number, considering that the service has not long launched - and right now the production values, scripting and delivery are excellent. Long may it last.
The app itself is well put together and the basis of something designed to have a real community feel about it. You can rate the shorts, add your favourite horror movie quotes, download movie wallpapers for your phone and have a general chat about all things macabre. The key to the whole venture will be to make sure there’s enough content coming on board regularly but, if you don’t want to have to check in all the time to find out, you can set the app to alert you when there’s fresh meat uploaded.

So far, you can’t really fault Popcorn Horror. Great content, great delivery and all in your pocket wherever you are. We likey.
